OFFICER CADET SCHOOL CONDUCTS FIRST NIGHT EXERCISE FOR INTAKE 25 PROBATIONARY OFFICER CADETS

TANAH JAMBU, Tuesday, 17 February 2026 — The Officer Cadet School (OCS) conducted the First Night Exercise for Intake 25 Probationary Officer Cadets, a two-day jungle familiarisation training exercise held at the Jungle Training Area, Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces. The exercise marked the Probationary Officer Cadets’ first exposure to the jungle environment, including their initial overnight experience using the Individual Shelter System.

Throughout the exercise, the Probationary Officer Cadets underwent both theoretical and practical training focused on fieldcraft proficiency. This included identifying jungle hazards, sourcing food and water in the field, maintaining personal hygiene, as well as the care and maintenance of individual equipment, including machetes.

The tactical training modules included combat simulations using trip flares, illumination and smoke; the application of light and noise discipline during both day and night; camouflage and concealment techniques; visibility principles; and individual movement techniques in jungle terrain.

The First Night Exercise provides early exposure for Probationary Officer Cadets to operate in a jungle environment, while helping them develop adaptability and resilience as a foundation for more complex training. The exercise also builds self-confidence and fosters practical leadership qualities required to operate effectively in challenging field condition.
