MULTI MISSION RANGE COMPLEX, TUESDAY, 22 October 2024 – In the first week of the Urban Operations Training Package (UOTP), the Officer Cadets (OCdts) of Intake 23 attended lessons at the Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute Military Institute (SAFTI MI) focused on the Singapore Assault Rifle 21 (SAR21), which was designed and manufactured in Singapore. The OCdts received lessons on weapon handling, assembly and disassembly within a time limit, and Immediate Action (IA) drills. These lessons were essential for the OCdts to qualify for their SAR21 qualification shoot at the Multi Mission Range Complex (MMRC) in Pasir Laba Camp, Singapore. The objective of these lessons and the qualification shoot was to ensure that the OCdts were properly trained in order to operate a different weapon system, thereby enhancing their confidence in weapon handling, shooting skills, and understanding of the rifle's mechanics. The lessons and qualification shoot were conducted and assisted by the instructors and OCdts from Delta Wing of SAFTI MI.
In the final week of UOTP, the OCdts participate in Urban Operation Live Firing at MMRC. This event serves as a culminating challenge, allowing the OCdts to assess their proficiency and test their confidence in firing live rounds as well as to demonstrate their understanding of Urban Operation tactics, which they have put into practice in previous exercises, Coyote II and Coyote III. Additionally, it showcases the weapon handling skills they have developed throughout their training at SAFTI MI.
The Urban Operation Live Firing required coordination, adaptability, and teamwork, in order for the OCtds to safely conduct and complete the exercise. These experiences will be invaluable and essential to the OCdts, in order to ensure readiness and effectiveness in urban operations and real life scenarios. The live firing also emphasized on the importance of learning new techniques, skills as well as safety as it is needed for the OCdts to quickly adapt to new environments in order for them to be well equipped for future challenges that they will face as they progress throughout their careers.
