REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE, Sunday 09 October 2022 - As part of the War Study Package, the officer cadet of intake 21, officers and instructors of Intake 21, Officer Cadet School Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (OCS DA RBAF) visited Reflections at Bukit Chandu (RBC), which is a World War II (WWII) interpretative centre that commemorates the Battle of Pasir Panjang and the men of the Malay Regiment who fought in it. The battle is one of the fiercest battles fought against the Japanese in Singapore, whereby, despite the regiment being heavily outnumbered, they were able to hold their ground for three days and they fought to the last breath.
The objective of this visit was to instill the officer cadets with an inspiring example war figure of the human spirit triumphing over adversity in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The visit started off with a tour on the first floor of the interpretive centre where it covers the introduction of the Malay Regiment’s formation in 1933 which was organised under British Officer. Their motto was Ta’at Setia which translates to Faithful and True. The tour continued onto the next gallery where it showcased the events that took place during the Battle of Pasir Panjang through a series of multimedia projections. Lastly, the final gallery that the officer cadets visited is dedicated in remembrance to the fallen heroes that sacrifice their lives to defend Singapore, notably Lieutenant Adnan bin Saidi.
Following the visit to the RBC, the delegation also had the opportunity to visit the iconic Merlion statue at the Merlion Park.
