TANAH JAMBU, Defence Academy, Monday 6 September 2021 - The Officer Cadets of Intake 20 of Officer Cadet School (OCS) held their first official debate event at the Lecture Theater, OCS HQ.
 
This year’s event was conducted differently as compared to the previous intakes where it was carried out online via Zoom meeting, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. The Guest of Honour was 768 Lt Col Pg Siti Khatamalzariah bte Pg Hj Kamaludin, Commanding Officer of OCS. The Intake Commander of Intake 20, 823 Maj (U) Muhd Yusra bin Awg Jafar along with the Intake Officers and the invited Officers were also present in the online debate session.
 
The aim of the event was to challenge the Officer Cadet’s skills in persuasion and presentation and also hoped to improve their critical thinking, whilst to enhance the ability to structure and organise thoughts with regards to the topic given. The topic debated was ‘Impact of COVID-19: effective military leaders made in the virtual environment’. In order to promote competition between the Officer Cadets, they were divided into two teams; the proposition and opposition team which consists of all three services; Royal Brunei Land force, Royal Brunei Navy and Royal Brunei Airforce. Both teams portrayed their best skills in presenting points with confidence and passion.
 
The proposition team has won the hearts of the judges as they displayed great confidence and robust points. In addition, the top 3 speakers were 22138 OCdt (U) Dk Rabiatuladawiah @ Dk Sarimah binti Pg Radzuan as the 2nd runner up, 54068 OCdt Muhd Hafiz bin Hj Abd Wahab as the 1st runner up and the best speaker was won by 22132 MID Nurul Majidah binti Awang Zakaria. An open discussion was carried out at the end of the event between the Guest of Honour, the invited Officers and the debaters.
