
TANAH JAMBU, Friday, 15 December 2023 – A significant day for 16 Officer Cadets of Intake 22 as they received their respective rank insignias in the morning at the appointment ceremony held in the Officer Cadet School (OCS) Mess Hall 2. These rank insignias include Cadet Platoon Sergeant, Cadet Corporal, Cadet Lance Corporal and the newly appointed Cadet Sergeant Major and Assistant Cadet Sergeant Major. The ceremony was officiated by the Guest of Honour, the Commanding Officer of OCS, Lieutenant Colonel (U) Pengiran Haji Muhammad Yusri Bin Pengiran Haji Sharifuddin. Also present were the Platoon Commanders and Instructors of OCS.
The event started with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by the officiating of the rank appointments by the Guest of Honour. One (1) Officer Cadet was promoted to Cadet Sergeant Major (CSM) and one (1) was promoted to Assistant Cadet Sergeant Major (ACSM). Two (2) Officer Cadets were promoted to Cadet Platoon Sergeants, six (6) were promoted to Cadet Corporals and another six (6) were promoted to Cadet Lance Corporals. These given appointments hold their own set of duties and responsibilities.
Both CSM and ACSM were acknowledged as having an exceptional performance during their tenure as Officer Cadets, thus far. The newly appointed Cadet Sergeant Major are 22283 OCDT Dk Noor Ummiatul Afiqah binti Pg Zainalabidin and the Assistant Cadet Sergeant Major 22288 OCDT Murfiqah binti Muhammad Zainal Abidin.
The rank system allows the OCdts to understand and exercise the principles of military leadership and the importance of following orders as it establishes a clear chain of command. The different ranks will also expose OCdts to various levels of responsibility and leadership, giving them practical experience in decision-making and team management. Through this, OCdts refine their leadership skills and characters and are better prepared to meet the high standards expected of RBAF officers.
