TANAH JAMBU, Friday, 24 January 2020 – In conjunction with the Sovereign’s Parade of Intake 18, Officer Cadet School, the Newly Commissioned Officers hosted a regimental graduation dinner night at the Ceremonial Hall, Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF).
Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Ret) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi bin Hj Md Yussof, Second Minister of Defence. Also present was Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Commander of the RBAF, Services Commanders, Joint Force Commander, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary, Commandant of the Defence Academy, Commanding Officer of the Officer Cadet School, Senior Officers, Officers and Newly Commissioned Officers.
The Second Minister of Defence was welcomed by the Newly Commissioned Officers of Intake 18 and the respective guests before taking a group photograph and afterwards, the dinner proceeded with a symphonic diversion by the RBAF band.
As part of the Regimental Dinner Night tradition, a speech was conveyed by 1353 Lieutenant (U) Wan Mohammad Hijazi bin Haji Yussof, the Sword of Honour recipient. He featured how each and everybody has faced difficulties during the training here in OCS, for example, CO’s Challenge, Commandant’s Challenge and Commander’s Challenge as an intake. He asked everybody to think back the year they had as an Officer Cadet; all the work, exercises, fulfilment and achievements. Additionally, he shared a statement imparted by the Commander of the RBAF during a sharing session recently, “It doesn’t make a difference what your reason was for coming here, what makes a difference more is your reason for staying”.
As a token of appreciation, the Newly Commissioned Officers presented a memento to the Second Minister of Defence and the Commander of the RBAF. Finally, to cherish the night, both the Second Minster of Defence and the Commander of the RBAF were invited to conduct the RBAF band followed by the signing of parchment by the Guest of Honour and the Commander of the RBAF which then concluded the event.
