ULU TEMBURONG, Sunday 3 November 2019 – It was a memorable day for 21 midshipmen of Intake 18 as they not only get to interact with Naval cadets from SAFTI (Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute) but also experience what the Ulu Temburong has to offer. The midshipmen kick off their day with being dropped at the Jetty at Bandar and accompanying them in this trip were Major (U) Muhd Yusra bin Awang Jafar and Captain Pg Siti Aishah Norpermar binti Pg Hj Abu Bakar. Upon arrival, they met with the other Naval cadets, had a brief introduction and were divided into 6 groups equally before headed to the next destination.Exercise Pelican was founded in 1797 and underlines the close and longstanding ties between Singapore and Brunei in defence. The exercise improves cooperation, understanding and interoperability between Royal Singapore Navy and Royal Brunei Navy. In addition to Pelican exercise, the RSN and RBN also regularly interact through a range of activities such as today. The close relations between the two navies have been reinforced by these kind of interactions.
Once arrived at the Uluulu Resort Jetty, they had to write their names down and safety brief as well as layout of the activities were given by their respective tour guides. Throughout the day, all 6 groups get to participate in the Canopy Walk which consist of 800 flight of stairs to climb up and down, rock climbing, flying fox and jungle trekking with a distance of 1 kilometre.
The activities ended with announcing the best group with the best timings in canopy walk and Jungle trekking in which the winners were group 1 and group 2 respectively and a group photo before heading back to Bandar for a casual dinner at Wafa Hotel, Beribi.
The dinner was informal and casual where those involved in this trip gets the benefit from the interactions they received from their designated buddies and group. The night ended with a performance by midshipmen from both countries and a photo session.
