2012 saw the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of 12 military personnel including 8 officer cadets in training. In remembrance of these fallen soldiers, on Friday afternoon of 4th Ramadhan, 1440 which corresponded to 10th May, 2019, the Officer Cadets of Intake 18 paid an honourable visit to some of their cemeteries and held a cleaning campaign and Tahlil.
The officer cadets were deployed to three different cemeteries where some of the victims of the helicopter crash had been laid to rest. 1 Platoon, with the strength of 27, were deployed to the cemetery situated in Damuan. Whereas, 2 Platoon with the strength of 26 Officer Cadets, were sent to visit two Officer Cadets’ graves, the late OCdt Haji Mohamad Azhar bin Sulong and the late OCdt Nurul Azizi bin Shahri at An-Naim Cemetery, Kuala Belait. Simultaneously, 3 Platoon were sent to Jerudong Islamic Cemetery. The Platoon Commanders, OCS instructors and the late Officer Cadets’ families also participated in the activity. Also present with 1 Platoon was the Commanding Officer of Officer Cadet School, Lieutenant Colonel Amirul Adly bin Haji Ali, and School Sergeant Major, Warrant Officer
This was another religious activity that was conducted by the Officer Cadets of Intake 18. In addition to the objectives, this activity also aimed to strengthen the tie with the local community and to make a contribution to the society. This activity was held to remember the fallen soldiers and to contribute and empathize with the local communities.
Prior to deployment, the officer cadets prepared the essential cleaning kits such as rakes, brooms, rubbish plastic bags, towels, buckets and more. Then, we made our move after Juma’at’ Prayer. Upon arrival, after unloading all of the cleaning kits, the cleaning campaign began. Each platoon had an appointed Imam to lead the Tahlil – 1 Platoon was led by 53212 OCdt Mohamad Zairul Hafiy bin Haji Mat Zaini, 2 Platoon was led by 53207 OCdt Md Fakrul Amirin bin Ismail while 3 Platoon was led 53249 OCdt Mohammad Zulfitri bin Haji Zoferi. The activity was then proceeded with the recitation of Tahlil which was performed alongside the late Officer Cadets’ families followed by the pouring of ‘Air Asah-Asahan’ was done after that. The officer cadets returned to the Defence Academy before Maghrib just in time for sungkai.
