TANAH JAMBU, FRIDAY, 17 January 2024 – The Officer Cadets (OCdts) of Intake 23 had the privilege of attending a leadership talk delivered by Yang Mulia Colonel Pengiran Sharifuddin bin Pengiran Haji Yusof, The Commandant of Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF). The Commandant addressed the OCdts of Intake 23 in a leadership lesson centered on the values, skills, and mindset required for leadership in the modern era.
In his talk, the Commandant explored the meaning of leadership, emphasizing that true leaders are defined by their ability to inspire trust, act decisively, and remain steadfast in their commitment to their teams and the mission. He stressed that leadership is not about rank or authority but about setting an example, fostering unity, and empowering others. Highlighting the role of social skills, the Commandant reminded OCdts that strong interpersonal relationships are vital for effective leadership. He discussed the need for empathy, active listening, and clear communication, urging OCdts to build trust and rapport with their teams and future subordinates.
The session concluded with question and answer sessions, where OCdts sought guidance on challenges they might face as future leaders. This interactive and inspiring session reinforced the core values of leadership, critical thinking, and personal responsibility, leaving a lasting impression on the OCdts as they prepare for the challenges of their future roles.
