MUARA, Friday, 15th November 2024 - A closing ceremony was held by the Midshipmen of Officer Cadet School (OCS) Intake 23 at Naval Training Centre (NTC), Royal Brunei Navy (RBN). This ceremony marks the end of the Midshipmen journey in Special-To-Service (STS) Term which ran from 19th August 2024 to 15th November 2024.
The Guest of Honour was Yang Mulia Commander Saiful Hazril bin Ali, RBN, Fleet Chief of Staff of the RBN. Also present were Senior officers from NTC, RBN, Officers from OCS, Instructors from the Brunei Engineering, Logistics and Training Solutions (BELTS), and staff from the NTC, RBN. During the ceremony, the Midshipmen presented a token of appreciation to the Fleet Chief of Staff as a gesture of gratitude, symbolizing their success in completing the Special-To-Service training program, which proudly carried the slogan: “Through haunted waters, we sail”.
The Midshipmen developed crucial skills for their naval careers through comprehensive lessons in navigation, maritime regulations, communication, meteorology, tidal theory, anchoring, ropework, and celestial navigation. These competencies were further solidified with practical training, laying a strong groundwork for operational effectiveness. Additionally, the Midshipmen refined their hands-on skills through chart navigation, simulations using the Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS), and training in firefighting and damage control, equipping them to respond effectively to emergencies aboard naval vessels. Their training also included visits to RBN vessels, where they gained firsthand experience with advanced ship systems, equipment, and operational procedures essential for their future roles.
With all the rigorous lessons and hands-on training, the Midshipmen are now more equipped to launch their naval careers, possessing the vital skills needed to handle the complexities of maritime operations and serve their country with honor. The RBN remains dedicated to nurturing its future leaders, ensuring they are prepared to face the challenges of an ever-evolving maritime landscape.
