PASSING OFF SQUARE MARKS THE END OF 6 WEEKS TRAINING FOR PROBATIONARY OFFICER CADETS INTAKE 23


TANAH JAMBU, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 – Today marked the end of the six-week basic military training for the Probationary Officer Cadets (POCdts) of Intake 23. The six-weeks program is a militarization phase which enables the POCdts to manage themselves and transition to a military lifestyle.   

The aim of the program is to develop the POCdts especially their leadership skills, self-discipline and sense of responsibility. Predominantly delivered by officers and instructors from OCS and external training institutes, the past six weeks witnessed the POCdts gaining a firm basic military foundation, namely:

  • Cadet Personal Fitness Assessment (CPFA), 
  • Weapon Handling Test, 
  • Battlefield First Aid, 
  • Signal, 
  • Map reading, 
  • Basic Jungle Skills, and 
  • Drill.  

To conclude the 6 weeks basic military training, the POCdts were assessed with the Passing Off Square Assessment. It comprises three phases, namely Uniform Inspection, Section Squad Drill led by the respective Section Instructors and Personal Drill inspection. At the end of the program, 2 platoon 1 section was announced as the best section for their achievement in winning the section squad drill.  

The main objective is to foster good teamwork and strong discipline within a section. With this, self-confidence and leadership skills are needed in giving commands during their Personal Drill. The initial six-week are designed to prepare the POCdts to be resilient and agile to progress through their 48-week commissioning course.
